Bedrooms and Bargains

Turning your boring bedroom into an Oasis of calm. A retreat. Sounds great, huh? I had been planning on redoing our master for years. But what with a tight budget and being busy with other things I just never got around to it. Although our furniture was old and not even really practical for us, I just let it go and just spent a little time wishing after seeing an episode featuring a lovely bedroom makeover or seeing a pretty photo spread in a magazine. I can see me in rooms like these…sigh.

Well, when we started to get our house ready to show so we could move I realized that it was perfect time. Out with the old – in with the new! I went through and boxed up knick knacks, pictures, even clothes and shoes and lots of other odds and ends, things I just didn’t want. As well as some furniture, including our bedroom stuff and I sold or gave it all away. Our house was a blank slate. Painting took a while then it was time to put it all back together so it would show well. I was happy with everything…except my room. I was out of money and my room was just a platform bed with a mattress and some extra boxes stacked neatly on a bench. Boring. But I can live with it because it’s just temporary till we move. And that’s how it stayed for several months. Then we found out we probably weren’t going to be moving this year after all! I’m actually glad-  don’t want to leave our little forest, and I know our dogs (all 5 of them) wouldn’t be happy confined to a small yard either!

So we are (most likely) staying, the house is painted, a lot of small repairs have been done but my bedroom is more of a storage closet than an inviting place to rest. So… I ordered some furniture and am getting new curtains and a few odds and ends. Yay, right? Well sort of. As budget minded as I am , as much as I look for deals before I buy, I wasted money because this time I didn’t look around too much. I knew exactly what kind of headboard I wanted,  found it and ordered. Just like that, no deal hunting.  And dang it, if I would have just popped over to someplace like PromotionCode. org I could have had more money left over. I was over there earlier and I could have saved $20.00 on a purchase of $150.00 or more PLUS free shipping at the site where I bought some bedroom stuff…$35.95 “extra” is what I spent. Sites don’t always have their deals displayed.  I vow never to go against my frugal tendencies again…no impulse buys, no “I’m in a hurry” purchases, no paying till I’m sure I got the best price!
